Bogong
It's weird I know, but I love the fact it's Bogong moth season. Growing up in Tassie Bogong was one of those words that had a mythos about it - something magic and ancient and very Aussie in experience.. and so I now think it's so cool. I may be the only one ;)

tell me what you really think
a) Meg the Unsteady
b) Meg of Landulph / Meg a Landulph
c) Megge of Landulph / Megge a Landulph
d) submit your own ;)
ETA: Landulph is where part of my mum's family is from, her Grandmother lived in the cottage by the church and mum spent lots of time there before immigrating. My grandparents are buried there and theirs before them. There's not much there, a couple of house/farms, the village is called Cargreen and is a couple of miles away. There's been something on the church site as long as we know - it is registered in the Doomsday book, and the current church is on the site of a Norman church (a few stones still left) which in turn was built of a celtic sacred/early christian site (called a Lan, hence Landulph). In a lovely coincidence it's on the Tamar river, and I grew up looking at and sailing on the Tamar in Tassie.

Just a short while...
Ok, so sometimes our TV can take a little while to turn on. Up to a couple of hours between pressing the button and getting a picture. It's been very good recently so I was pretty optimistic when I turned it on during the day last Saturday.
hmmm. waiting waiting.......
We've just walked in the door tonight, Friday night almost a week later to discover that it's finally turned on. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to risk turning it off.....

A Few Good Men
Looking through the photos I took on the weekend there was one that I particularly loved - but for a deeper reason than just because it was a photo of people that are important to me.
It's really easy to focus on how wonderful my friendships with the same sex are - those chickies near and dear to me that are both here in Sydney and scattered around the globe. However I find it's easier to forget about the men in my life, and how lucky I am to know the people that I do. These two above, as well as the Lemming men, Nik and Scruff below, they all inspire me with their honour, courtesty, integrity, support for those who need it, their intelligence and all round 'goodness' - their actions and their words are authentic and lead others to treat them with respect. Yay them basically. I feel lucky!
(I never said they were 'Normal'!!!)

I go to opera and stay wide awake
I get too hungry for dinner at eight
I like the theater but never come late
I never bother with people I hate
That's why the lady is a tramp
I don't like crap games with Barons and Earls
Won't go to Harlem in ermine and pearls
Won't dish the dirt with the rest of the girls
That's why the lady is a tramp
Years ago I loved this stuff but they discontinued it. Now... back by popular demand... HURRAH!!!
I'm spending all weekend in the bath.

Dear Aveline
When you were up here last weekend we talked about how you loved frangipanis. How wonderful it is when Sydney smells like them when you get off the bus.
So, silly or not, this is in my kitchen (where all the best magic is made)
I know that someone out there desperately needed a mohawked, tatooed, hot pink fairy godmother, but....
no one asked us.

I've mentioned this pic from the Cantigas de Santa Maria to saggy pants a few times so I thought I'd post it. It's my favourite :)
